Heat Pump Water Heater Contractor Incentive Program
Get $1,000 to reduce the cost of every heat pump water heater (HPWH) you install.
Help your customers save on long-term energy costs, and get a thousand dollars to reduce your customers’ costs and increase your HPWH sales. Ava Community Energy is offering an incentive that pays you $1,000 directly every time you install a heat pump water heater in our service territory.
How does an installation qualify?
- Homeowner must be a current Ava Community Energy customer
- Installation must replace an existing natural gas or propane water heater with a new heat pump water heater
- The heat pump water heater must have a Uniform Energy Factor of 3.3 or greater AND grid-connected capabilities—see qualified product list (PDF).
How do I participate?
This program is open to B-General Building, C-36 Plumbing, and C-20 HVAC Contractors. Although this program is separate from TECH Clean California, the enrollment process is run through The Switch is On. To enroll, check the box next to “BayREN HPWH Contractor Incentive Program” under TECH Partner programs at the bottom of the enrollment form to create or update your account with TECH Clean California.
Incentives are available for qualifying equipment purchased July 23, 2024 through March 31, 2025 or while program funds last. This incentive should not be confused with TECH Clean California incentives, although the enrollment portal is the same in California.
Check the box next to “BayREN HPWH Contractor Incentive Program” and help your customers reduce their costs.

When you participate in TECH Clean California, you get access to local incentive dollars for recommending and installing heat pumps in existing California homes. There is no cost to participate.
As a TECH Clean California participating contractor, you will:
- Offset equipment and installation costs by joining TECH Clean California, with incentives paid directly to you
- Receive technical and sales training from manufacturers and world-class instructors
- Boost the value of your business by being listed as a qualified TECH Clean California installer on switchison.org.
