Ava Bike Electric is an incentive program that aims to increase access to e-bikes, reduce carbon emissions, and support local businesses. Learn more about how the program works and apply now at the bottom of this page for an instant rebate of $400 to $1,500 off a new e-bike.
How It Works
Step 1: Apply Online
Complete the form at the bottom of this page. We’ll verify your eligibility and notify you by email after you apply.
Step 2: Monthly Random Drawings
Eligible applicants are automatically entered into three consecutive monthly drawings. Random drawings take place on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Anyone deemed eligible by 11:59 PM the day prior will be entered in that month’s drawing.
Step 3: Get an Instant Rebate
If you are selected, you’ll receive an email with your unique instant rebate code and details about your instant rebate amount.
Step 4: Purchase a New E-Bike
Redeem your instant rebate at any participating bike shop. You must complete your e-bike purchase within 60 days of receiving your instant rebate.
Next drawing date:
July 22, 2025
Not selected in the first drawing? Don’t worry! You will be automatically entered into the next two monthly drawings. If you aren’t selected after three drawings, you can opt in for up to three more drawings or re-apply at a later date.
To be eligible for the Ava Bike Electric program, applicants must be:
A customer of Ava Community Energy OR a resident of Alameda County
18 years of age or older
Able to show photo ID and proof of address during rebate redemption
Eligible applicants may qualify for one (1) instant rebate per person with a maximum of two (2) instant rebates per household. Each person in a household must apply individually. Only one entry per person is allowed. Submitting multiple applications will not increase your chances of being selected.
We offer rebates for three different types of e-bikes:
Standard E-Bike
Lightweight and easy to maneuver for an enjoyable daily commute, running errands, and getting around town. Also called commuter or city e-bikes, the comfortable, upright design makes these ideal for first-time e-bike riders.
Cargo E-Bike
With powerful pedal assist and extra stability features, cargo e-bikes are larger than standard e-bikes and designed for carrying passengers and heavier loads.
Adaptive E-Bike
Innovative designs for riders with mobility challenges. Options include tandem, recumbent, and tricycle models to ensure everyone can enjoy cycling.
Check the eligible e-bike list for a full list of models you can use your rebate on:
New to e-bikes? We’ve compiled a comprehensive buyer’s guide that breaks down everything you need to know — from understanding different bike classes and features to finding the perfect e-bike to match your lifestyle, budget, and riding goals.
How will I know if I’ve been selected in the monthly random drawing to receive an instant rebate?
You will be notified by email on the day of the drawing. Complete details will be provided in the email, including your unique rebate code, the instant rebate value, expiration date, and instructions on how to redeem it at any participating bike shop.
How many rebates will Ava give out in this program? What are my chances of getting a rebate?
This program has $7.1 million in rebates available, with 40% of those funds set aside for income-qualified applicants. Between program launch and September 2026—our last planned month for a rebate drawing—Ava will disburse roughly 600 rebates every month.
Your chances of getting a rebate are entirely based on the number of applicants in the program in any given month. Ava will reassess the number of rebates we disburse each month if demand remains high. Our goal is to support as many participants as possible, while also ensuring participating bike shops can meet the increased demand.
How do I know the amount I qualify for?
The rebate amount will depend on the type of e-bike you purchase (standard, cargo, or adaptive), and whether you are on an income-qualified electricity rate. Income-qualified electricity rates include California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) or Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) if you’re a PG&E customer, and the Energy Assistance Program (EAP) if you’re with Alameda Municipal Power.
Base rebate amounts are $400 for a standard e-bike and $900 for a cargo or adaptive e-bike. For income-qualified electricity rate customers, rebate amounts are $1,000 for a standard e-bike and $1,500 for cargo or adaptive. If you’re an income-qualified participant, you’ll also receive a $250 rebate to be applied toward the purchase of a helmet, lock, and lights.
I think I should be on an income-qualified electricity rate. How do I sign up?
If Alameda Municipal Power is your energy provider, you may be eligible for their Energy Assistance Program (EAP). Contact Alameda Municipal Power to apply or learn more.
What if I’m not selected to receive an instant rebate?
After applying to Ava Bike Electric, eligible participants will automatically be entered into the next three monthly drawings. You will be notified by email on the day of the drawing if your name was not selected in the random drawing. If you aren’t selected for an instant rebate after three drawings, you will have the option to opt back into the drawings or reapply.
How long do I have to redeem my instant rebate?
The instant rebate is good for 60 days. If you don’t redeem it within 60 days, your instant rebate will automatically expire.
My instant rebate expired! Can I get an extension or reapply?
A one-time 15-day extension is available upon request. If your rebate expires, you can reapply for the program as long as you have not yet redeemed an instant rebate and no more than one person in your household has participated in the program.
What if the e-bike I want is out of stock, or not available for pickup before my instant rebate expires?
That’s OK. As long as you place your order within 60 days of receiving your rebate, you can place the order and redeem your instant rebate at the time you pay for your bike.
If the eligible e-bike you want is out of stock at a participating bike shop, they can special order it for you. To make sure your rebate doesn’t expire while you wait for your bike to be delivered, you’ll need to redeem the instant rebate and pay any remaining balance when you place the order.
If the e-bike I purchase costs less than the value of my instant rebate, do I get to keep the balance?
No. Any unused rebate amount is forfeited. The instant rebate cannot be used for taxes or shipping fees, and it typically does not cover the full purchase price of most e-bike models.
Can I apply for another instant rebate if I’ve already redeemed one?
No. The program only allows for one instant rebate per participant and up to two instant rebates per household. We want this program to support as many participants as possible.
Do I need to bring anything with me to the bike shop to purchase my e-bike?
Yes, every applicant selected to receive an instant rebate must provide photo identification and proof of a physical address that matches the information used in the application. Any document used to verify your address must be dated within one year of your application to Ava Bike Electric. This verification process helps keep the program fair and running smoothly.

Can I submit multiple applications to increase my chances of receiving a rebate?
No, you only need to apply once. Submitting multiple applications won’t increase your chances of being selected, and duplicate or fraudulent applications will be disqualified. Eligible applicants may qualify for one (1) instant rebate per person with a maximum of two (2) instant rebates per household.
This verification process helps ensure that everyone has an equal chance in the random monthly drawings and that we can distribute as many rebates to eligible participants as possible.
If I had already purchased an e-bike before applying for the program, can I be reimbursed if I qualify for the instant rebate?
No. The instant rebate must be processed at the time of purchase.
Can I use the instant rebate to purchase a used e-bike, e-bike accessories, or a conversion kit?
No, the instant rebate can only be applied toward the purchase of a new e-bike from our qualified product list. It cannot be applied toward a used e-bike, converting a regular bicycle to an e-bike, or accessories.
If you’re an income-qualified participant, you will receive an additional $250 rebate that you can use to purchase safety equipment for you and your e-bike, including helmets, locks, and lights.
Can I return my e-bike after purchase?
Returns for in-store purchases must be made within 30 days of purchase. Any additional return is at the discretion of the bike shop and your e-bike manufacturer warranty. Please review the store’s return policy and manufacturer warranty when making your purchase.
