Center for Resource Solutions recognizes EBCE’s green power market development efforts
Minneapolis, MN (September 15, 2022) – Today, East Bay Community Energy (EBCE) was recognized among the Center for Resource Solutions’ 2022 Green Power Leadership Award winners for its renewable energy market development. This award honors industry leaders, innovators, and champions of renewable energy and whose actions support the accelerated development of green power markets.
EBCE launched as a Community Choice Aggregator (CCA) and community-based energy provider in 2018. Since then, they have quickly led the procurement of 1,000+ megawatts of new clean energy projects (including a new local 57.5-megawatt wind farm) and the development of innovative grid edge programs. EBCE is “putting steel in the ground” by building utility-scale and local-scale renewable energy projects.
EBCE offers incentives for building and transportation electrification, and has an open and transparent governance process that prioritizes the deployment and distribution of local clean energy for low- to moderate-income communities. More than 150,000 customers leverage EBCE’s Renewable 100 product, choosing 100% California wind and solar energy, while the other 500,000 accounts purchase 50% renewable energy and save a collective $19 million annually compared to what they would have paid the incumbent utility. EBCE also provides a Green-e certified discounted community solar program for low-income customers.
“EBCE aims to provide all of its customers with 100% clean power by 2030, 15 years ahead of California’s 2045 target, and is focused on putting a significant amount of resources into underserved districts. Today’s recognition from CRS reinforces how equitable clean energy can be a blueprint for communities to meet both rising energy demands and low-carbon objectives.” said EBCE CEO Nick Chaset.
“In just five years EBCE has emerged as one of the most community-focused and effective CCAs in California,” said Jennifer Martin, Executive Director of Center for Resource Solutions, which presented the award to EBCE. “We’re proud to honor its ongoing commitment to investing in renewable energy and making its economic and environmental impact felt throughout the local community.”
