The city of Piedmont has been awarded the Institute of Local Governments Beacon Spotlight Award for Sustainability Best Practices at the platinum level.

The city was awarded for going above and beyond state mandates, highlighting creative and local solutions for addressing climate sustainability in 10 areas. Those areas include plans to build an all-electric community pool; installing four public EV chargers partnered with East Bay Community Energy; establishing free bimonthly compost giveaways; adopting local building energy requirements known as “reach codes;” adopting a pedestrian and bicycle master plan to improve conditions for pedestrians and bicyclists and encouraging those modes of transportation where possible.

“I’m so proud that Piedmont is being recognized by our peers for leadership in environmental stewardship,” said Piedmont Mayor Teddy Gray King.
