Albany
The City of Albany helped found Ava in 2016—and has been using Ava’s clean energy since 2018. Its residential, municipal, and commercial accounts are automatically enrolled in Ava’s Renewable 100 service.

Albany’s Energy Transition
In order to offer Albany businesses and residents cleaner energy, and to help the City of Albany achieve its Climate Action Plan goals, the Albany City Council voted to join Ava Community Energy (Ava) in November 2016. Ava began serving residential, business, and municipal electricity customers throughout Albany in 2018.
In June 2021, the Albany City Council voted to set the default electricity option for Albany residents (except those on CARE, FERA, and/or Medical Baseline rates) and businesses to Ava’s Renewable 100 service starting in January 2022. Renewable 100 service is sourced from 100% wind and solar facilities, including our new wind farm in Livermore. Renewable 100 costs an additional 1/4 cent per kilowatt-hour above PG&E rates. That’s about $1 more per month for a typical Albany home and varies more widely for businesses based on amount of power used. Customers in Albany can choose Ava’s Bright Choice service or return to PG&E service at any time. Your participation is helping Ava move toward 100% carbon-free electricity for all customers by 2030.
