CleanTechnica interviewed CEO Howard Chang about Ava’s new virtual power plant initiative, which optimizes connected devices like EVs and home batteries to lower costs for customers while supporting grid reliability.

The Independent’s editorial board praised Ava’s virtual power plant program as a creative solution to making clean energy more affordable, calling it a model that other energy providers should follow to tackle climate change.

“There’s a lot of discussion out there about the value of VPPs in energy markets, but there isn’t much talk about the value to the customer,” said Ava CEO Howard Chang. “As a public agency with ‘community’ literally in our name, we’re leaning into the work of determining how to share the value derived from VPPs with the customers we serve.”
