Renewable procurement gaps from load serving entities (LSEs) have put California’s climate targets at risk. Despite these gaps, EBCE’s CEO Nick Chaset notes that CCAs are planning to procure renewables beyond what is required.

Local governments have started a revolution in California’s energy industry: the creation of community choice aggregators (CCAs). These small, agile agencies are being created across the state to reduce rates and to increase the use of climate-friendly energy sources. The traditional investor owned utility system is changing and EBCE is one of many new CCAs in the state.

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) increased the cost of exit fees, the cost that CCA customers pay when they leave a investor owned utility and go to a CCA. The CPUC claims these fees level the playing field, while environmental groups worry that they will threaten the viability of community choice energy.

The Independent announced the launch of EBCE as a new electricity provider for Alameda County, highlighting EBCE’s mission to offer a higher percentage of renewable and carbon-free energy at competitive rates.
