What is induction cooking?
Induction is the most advanced cooking technology available today. It cooks food faster than traditional stoves, is just as powerful, and is more precise. Plus no open flames means less heat is lost to the surrounding air, helping kitchens stay cooler. Induction technology eliminates the carbon monoxide and other toxins emitted by gas stoves.

FAQs
-
What is the difference between an induction range and an induction cooktop?
A standalone cooktop includes only induction cooking elements and no oven. Cooktop-only models oftentimes drop into holes in countertops cut to their dimensions. An induction range includes an induction cooktop with electric oven(s).
-
Is this rebate eligible for self installed projects?
Projects installed by a third-party certified contractor are preferred for most applicants. Applicants with qualified maintenance/facilities staff may be permitted to complete installation of equipment. If electrical upgrades are required, a certified electrician must be the one to complete the work.
-
What if my building requires additional electrical upgrades to support an electric range/cooktop?
An electric induction cooktop commonly requires 40 or 50 amps of dedicated capacity on a service panel. Additionally, installing an electric appliance where a gas appliance once existed may require you to run electrical within range of the new appliance. If you do not have sufficient capacity on your service panel, you may need to upgrade it to increase the capacity. To help alleviate this financial burden, each applicant installing a retrofit induction range/ cooktop is eligible for up to $2,500 in rebate towards necessary electrical upgrade equipment and materials associated with this project.
-
Do I have to cap off my existing gas line when switching to an induction appliance?
In order to be eligible for a rebate for retrofit projects, the gas line that fed the existing natural gas appliance must be capped. This is for the gas line to the appliance only, not the entire building itself. Exceptions to this requirement may be made on a case-by-case basis.
