Ava Community Energy Saves Stockton and Lathrop Customers More Than $4.4M in First Six Months of Service
October 1, 2025
Local not-for-profit electricity provider delivers on promise of clean energy at lower rates.
Oakland, CA – October 1, 2025 – Ava Community Energy (Ava) today celebrates six months of service to the cities of Stockton and Lathrop, a milestone that has saved customers more than $4.4 million on their energy bills.
Ava began enrolling customers on April 1, 2025. To date, Ava serves more than 103,000 residential, municipal, and commercial accounts in Stockton and Lathrop; Solar NEM customers are being enrolled throughout the year based on their true-up date. All customers are automatically enrolled in Ava’s Bright Choice service plan, which saves customers five percent on electricity generation rates compared to PG&E. As the default electricity provider for both cities, Ava provides the power generation that PG&E then delivers to customers. Customers continue receiving a single monthly bill from PG&E that includes Ava’s lower generation charges alongside PG&E’s delivery charges, with no changes to service reliability or billing processes.
“We’re proud to serve Stockton and Lathrop and give our local communities more options for clean energy,” said Howard Chang, CEO of Ava Community Energy. “These savings show how our public agency creates immediate value for customers while building the foundation for a cleaner energy future.”
In addition to saving money on every energy bill, Ava customers gain access to programs that help save money and reduce carbon emissions. These include Ava Bike Electric, Ava SmartHome Charging, and additional local, state, and federal incentives for energy efficiency upgrades and electrification.
