Rates
Ava makes choosing locally controlled energy easy for your household or business by keeping rates competitive and stable while providing clean and renewable power. As our customer, your rates are calculated based on:
- Rate Schedule: your PG&E rate (e.g. TOU-C, E-ELEC, B10, B19S) and programs (e.g. CARE, Medical Baseline), and
- Ava Service Plan: Bright Choice or Renewable 100
The price you pay on Ava service will either be 5% lower than the PG&E equivalent rate (on our Bright Choice service) or 1/4 cent more than the PG&E equivalent rate (on our Renewable 100 service).
Rate Schedules
Our customers get to choose between our Bright Choice and Renewable 100 service. These service plans exist along with the rate schedule you choose from PG&E.
For example, if you are on the most common PG&E rate schedule, E-TOU-C featuring Time of Use rates with price peaks from 4pm-9pm, your cost as a Bright Choice customer is the PG&E E-TOU-C rate minus the 5% Bright Choice discount. The price of electricity for E-TOU-C varies by season and time of day, but Bright Choice is always 5% below what PG&E would have charged you.
Some common rate schedules from PG&E are:
Time of Use (TOU) Rates
TOU rates vary according to the time of day, season, and day type (weekday or weekend/holiday). There are different TOU options, depending on your electricity needs.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Rates
We offer the same EV rates at PG&E, and you can use PG&E’s EV rate calculator to calculate which rate is best for you.
Discount Rates
Visit our State Discount Programs to learn more about special rate cases, like CARE, FERA, and Medical Baseline. Most of these discount rate cases are compatible with the above rate schedules (TOU, Solar customers, and EV rates). All of these discounts are the same regardless of whether you are an Ava or PG&E customer.
Our Rate Setting Process
Our electricity rates are set through a transparent public process and approved by our Board of Directors. As our staff prepare the annual fiscal year budget each May, they recommend to our Board whether the pricing for Bright Choice and Renewable 100 should be adjusted. If the proposal would change our rates relative to PG&E rates, we host webinars and invite public comments on the rate-setting process.
